Write. Write even if it completely sucks and needs to be banished to the pits of hell, just write. The first drafts of my chapters absolutely SUCK. I have to rewrite them three or four times for them to turn out even acceptable.
The first draft I use to get my general point across. The second draft I fix it up and make it read smoother. The third draft I add WAY more detail, and maybe throw in some more things that my mind cooked up since the first draft The fourth draft, I make sure that it all reads nicely and is in a good looking format. Then I usually post, although I've written a fifth and even a sixth draft of a story that I scrapped before.
Just keep writing. It may suck, but it's still something that you can say you got done with =D

I really need to take this advice. I'm seriously having trouble writing my book. I can crank out a charmed chapter in two hours without sweating but just 250 words a day is killing me on my book. *face/desk* I know it's psychological. I know it stress over the fact that I want to publish it but still, you'd think I could get passed it.

I've tried to write several books, but my problem always comes from the fact that I don't feel that they are original enough. When they work right, you know, it's great, but after I get past the originality thing, they just die on me. I think I can write fan fiction because I don't have to really develop anything but the plot, you know?
I'm sure once you get past your W/B, it'll be an awesome book though. =D

You know, I told my husband the same thing, that it's so much easier to write fanfiction because the original storyline is already there for you to build off of. With an original story you have to do some serious World Building and that's where I get stuck with. You have to develop your setting, your back story, your characters, the principles they live by if they are different than what we live by, and it can get overwhelming.
But I'm actually doing decently on all of that except maybe the setting. I hate writing about setting. It's boring as heck to me. But I know it has to be done.
And don't put your plotlines down. I bet they are awesome. And no matter how good a writer you are it's hard to come up with something that no one else has done before. There are just too many writers out there that have already had the same ideas that we have. The point is to take your plotline and make it unique by what you add to it. Give it some complicated twists that will surprise them and the'll forget about the used plotline.

Yeah, setting can be evil. That's one of my least favorite parts of writing. If you go back and read my fan fiction, I'm sure that you'll notice that it's mostly dialogue and character action. I can't stand writing the setting, since it's so much easier for me to write inner turmoil and what's actually happening. I don't really care for how dark the clouds are, even if it's storming outside during the demon fight or something.
And I've thought the same thing about plots before too. I always wonder if someone has ever thought the exact same thing that I was thinking a few second ago, and realize that someone more than likely has. There have been billions of people alive on our planet, and then I usually stop thinking before my head explodes.
I guess you're right... Now I just have to sit down and write fan fiction so that I can get them done and then work on original fiction lol.

I have the same problem with fanfiction as I do with my original stories. I'm too much of a perfectionist to write when I've got writer's block. I just can't write out something bad and leave it, I always end up getting annoyed and frustrated and erasing it all.

Yeah, you just can't do it. That's one of my problems too. I read somewhere that you should never publish a fanfic until you have it completely done. I'm trying to do that with a new Harry Potter fic I'm writing, (I've got about 1500 words done, which makes me feel guilty since I only have about 300 on Adopted lol), and I can already tell that I'm going to be irritated with not being able to go and post it once I get it where I want it to be.
If you do that again sometime, just send the file in an attachment to me in an email and I'll beta it for you. sometimes it just takes fresh perspective.

I have never been one that could hold off to post something till it was done. I feed off of peoples comments and often times some of the reviews will give me ideas for plot twists to throw in, which I do quite often, so I just don't see how I could ever wait till the end.

Dear God, I'm not one either, but I'm going to do my best with this story, although I'm slightly scared at the reactions I'll be getting... One of the main characters is an OC lol. Oh well.
And I'm going to read that new chapter of Second Existence, but right now I'm working on the HTML for my website. It actually looks pretty good, but we'll see how it turns out when I'm done.

That's fine, Neb. And let me tell you a secret every story I wrote before my Charmed stories contained an OC and I very rarely had complaints over them. So don't worry so much.
You might have even read one of my other stories, under my other account, since it was a Harry Potter story. Then again that was posted over a year ago, so maybe not.

You have another account? I was wondering why you hadn't posted any of the fics you have on NW on FF.net, but I figured that you didn't want to share with the general public (lol, how stupid is that, I mean, your forum is open to anyone who wants to look lol).
Also, most stories have OC, (unless they are oneshots that take place strictly within their fandom), but I mean this character is going to be central to the plot. He's going to completely change how things happened in OotP and the rest of the series (if I do a sequel, but I can't get ahead of myself. Haven't even finished planning the one I'm working on now lol), not to mention that I'm more planning his emotions that anything that has to do with the plot lol.
